Chris Jakubauskas gets another start for Seattle Mariners against Boston Red Sox next Friday

min0509 005.jpg
Just got done speaking with manager Don Wakamatsu, who announced that Chris Jakubauskas will get another start — next Friday at home against the Boston Red Sox. The off-day on Monday enabled the Mariners to juggle things and get some pitchers an extra day of rest. Felix Hernandez stays on his normal schedule and now pitches in Texas on Thursday.
So, some hope there.
We spoken the past few days about how Jason Vargas can only replace one starter at a time. When I asked Wakamatsu about the rationale for starting Jakubauskas again, he went back and forth a bit, but essentially said, politely, that there’s no one around to replace him right now.
“It’s just that with Silva going out and Vargas going in there, we’re still trying to give guys some opportunities,” Wakamatsu said. “And with who are possible candidates at this point to replace him, we felt that with Rowland-Smith coming back shortly, it’s best to try to give him another start. He pitched well in Chicago and we’ll try to give him another opportunity.
So, here’s the updated rotation:
TUE — Vargas @ Texas
WED — Washburn @ Texas
THU — Hernandez @ Texas
FRI — Jakubauskas vs. Red Sox
SAT — Bedard vs. Red Sox
SUN — Vargas vs. Red Sox
