Reliever David Aardsma will not pitch for the Mariners on Sunday, given the day off by manager Don Wakamatsu to insure the Mariners closer will have two days of rest since the Mariners do not play on Monday.
Aardsma pitched each of the previous two days and has appeared in three games in the past four days. Mark Lowe will be Seattle’s closer with Aardsma not available.
“He’s had a strenuous workload,” Wakamatsu said.
The Mariners have played 27 one-run games this season, and Wakamatsu expressed concern with the toll that has taken on the trio of Sean White, Lowe and Aardsma.
“With Aardsma, Lowe and White, we just can not continue to go down this road of two games in every series,” Wakamatsu said. “I think Aardsma has been tired the last couple of outings.”
