Bedard scratched with shoulder inflammation; Morrow will start Saturday

Don Wakamatsu dropped a mini-bombshell in our pre-game gathering a few minutes ago. Erik Bedard has been scratched from tomorrow’s start with what Wakamatsu termed “slight shoulder inflammation.” He added that Bedard “could probably pitch, but we felt it safest not to. We felt it was best, to keep him healthy all year, that we push him back one start.”
So the plan is to have Bedard skip one turn and return to the rotation on June 19th vs. Arizona.
The second part of the bombshell is that Brandon Morrow will make the start in Bedard’s place. He will be limited to 60 pitches. Wakamatsu messed with Morrow by calling him into his office and saying, “:You ready to start?”
Morrow, thinking he was headed to Tacoma, replied, “Yeah.”
Wakamatsu said, “Here?”
I’ll have more after I listen to the tape, but I wanted to get this up, because I know the “we should have traded Bedard when he was healthy” camp is going to have a field day.
By the sound of it, it’s nothing serious, but anything with the shoulder is worrisome.
