We told you pre-game that David Aardsma was feeling better. He got a chance to prove it in the ninth, retiring the side to preserve a 3-2 victory for the Mariners. Who would have thought Seattle would win a late-inning bullpen battle? Not many folks, but Roy Corcoran and Aardsma did the job after 6 1/3 innings by Garrett Olson.
The Mariners used some plate discipline and a little luck to score the decisive run in the ninth off Takashi Saito, who kept missing high in the zone. Three walks loaded the bases and then Chris Woodward — a career .170 hitter with the bases full — blooped a single to right.
The Mariners are now two games out of first place and have guaranteed themselves a winning road trip.
