Tuesday lineups, and transaction news

The Josh Wilson era is over. Provided Mike Sweeney doesn’t have a relapse of his back spasms in batting practice, he will be activated and Wilson will be designated for assignment. Wilson appeared in six games, had two plate appearances, and went 0-for-2 since being claimed off waivers from the Padres on June 19. He was added to the roster the next day when Endy Chavez went on the disabled list.
“I’m excited to be back, but it also breaks my heart that a guy like Josh Wilson has to get sent out,” Sweeney said. “He brings a lot of heart and energy to this team. Even though I’m happy to be back, it crushes my heart that Josh is not going to be here tomorrow.”

Of his own injury, which dates back to July 6, Sweeney said, “I told Jack (Zduriencik) and Wak (Don Wakamatsu) I’d only need three days. I know my body pretty well, especially with back and knee pain. I know how long it’s going to keep me out. But they told me after a few days, they needed a spot for (Erik) Bedard. I told them, ‘Hey, whatever’s best for the team is best for me. So I said if this is something you need to do, do it, even though I’ll be ready to play tomorrow.”
Sweeney is hitting .250 in 120 at-bats with three homer, 15 runs batted in, a .295 on-base percentage and .383 slugging percentage. He has been working out with the team and taking batting practice every day since the All-Star break.
“I have a routine that puts me ready to play every day, and when I’m in that lineup, I’ll be ready to go,” he said.
Kenji Johjima is back at catcher, which must mean Garrett Olson is pitching. Yep.
