Chris Woodward designated for assignment, Jack Hannahan stays

rangers0803.jpg
Looks like Jack Hannahan impressed the Mariners enough for them to take a chance on his limited middle infield skills. Adrian Beltre was activated today and it looked as if Chris Woodward, who plays shortstop, would get to stay as the backup infielder. But he’s been designated for assignment, while Hannahan will stay.
Hannahan had minor league options left. It had been expected by some, including me, that the Mariners might send him down and familiarize him with the middle infield a little more. But the Mariners like his bat, especially of late. He also provides insurance just in case Beltre comes back not as healthy as the team would like.
