Game thread, Mariners vs. Angels, Aug. 31 (and some more notes)

Update 9:37 p.m.: It was a total mismatch tonight: Angels 10, Mariners 0. Angels 13 hits, Mariners 3. Angels now lead Seattle by 11 games.
Update 8:58 p.m. (middle of seventh): That was vintage Vlad — he took a curve ball at his ankles from Jakubauskas and deposited in the upper deck in left. Wow. Guerrero now his three multi-homer games this season, 20 with the Angels and 39 in his career. 9-0 Angels.
Update 8:36 p.m.: The Mariners finally get their second hit (a Jack Wilson single), and he’s promptly erased by a double play. Jakubauskas is in for Seattle in the sixth. 7-0 Angels.
Update 8:30 p.m.: The M’s face an uphill road to get back in this one — uphill like to the top of Mt. Rainier. Juan Rivera’s three-run homer gives the Angels a 7-0 lead, and the way Saunders is mowing them down — and with the lineup they’re running out there today — Seattle’s outlook is bleak. 7-0 Angels.
Update 8:21 p.m (bottom of fourth).: That’s two hits over the last 13 innings for the Mariners, as Joe Saunders is Greinke-ing them tonight. Thirty-four of the last 37 M’s hitters have made outs. 4-0 Angels.
Update 8:14 p.m.: A solid bounce-back inning for French, retiring the Angels in order with two strikeouts. 4-0 Angels.
Update 8:01 p.m. (middle of third): The Angels put a hurtin’ on French in the third with four hits — including Vlad Guerrero’s two-run homer — for four runs. Hitting Bobby Abreu didn’t help. 4-0 Angels.
Update 7:39 p.m.: This time it was French working out of trouble, getting Erick Aybar to hit into an inning-ending force with two aboard.
By the way, Jarrod Washburn got crushed for eight runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to Tampa Bay today. In six starts for the Tigers, he is 1-2 with a 6.81 ERA. In five starts for Seattle, French is 3-1 with a 4.50 ERA.
UPDATE 7:27 P.M. (bottom of first); The Mariners loaded the bases with two outs against Joe Saunders (who has a 5.27 ERA), but Jack Hannahan grounded out. Luke French got three fly outs in the first after Chone Figgins led off with a single. 0-0.
Ichiro sits again, but will play tomorrow barring an unexpected setback.
“We felt one more day would help us a whole lot for everyone to feel a little safer when he came back,” manager Don Wakamatsu said. “If we played him today, he’d have to try to manage his running. Twenty-four hours could make a big difference for him and just give us all peace of mind.”
Ken Griffey Jr. still has soreness in his knee and is day to day. Carlos Silva will pitch an inning in Everett tomorrow for the Aqua Sox before moving to Tacoma. He is tentatively scheduled to pitch Thursday and possibly Sunday for the Rainiers.
This Angels lineup will be a stiff challenge for Luke French.
