Monday lineups: No Ichiro

I stayed down on the field a little longer than normal tonight to watch Dustin Ackley’s batting practice. He sprayed the ball all over the field, hitting a lot of line drives. True, he was hitting off a batting practice pitcher (ex-Husky lefty Brett Merrick), but you can tell he has a very nice stroke. He’s on the smallish side, however — slender, and not much musculature. I wonder if the M’s will put him on a weight program. Ken Griffey Jr took one look at Ackley and loudly proclaimed, “He left his (rear end) at home.” I’ll have much more on Ackley in a bit.
I was wrong — Ichiro is not playing today, as the M’s chose to err on the side of caution, even though he said he felt fine during his afternoon running. He will definitely play tomorrow, manager Don Wakamatsu said. Adrian Beltre will be activated tomorrow and start at third. I’ll have more on all that, too, once I transcribe all my tape.
The Angels start six .300 hitters tonight, plus one at .299 (Abreu). The Mariners start…none.
