Mariners 2, Rangers 1: Ken Griffey Jr. goes deep, Franklin Gutierrez big with bat and glove

That Ken Griffey Jr. home run certainly proved big in this 2-1 win by the Mariners. It felt like January out there tonight and the runs were tough to come by for both teams. But Griffey opened the scoring with his fourth-inning homer and Franklin Gutierrez added a run in the fifth with a single.
Gutierrez then helped secure the win for Ryan Rowland-Smith in the seventh after an Elvis Andrus double scored the only Texas run. There were men on second and third with none out when Rowland-Smith notched a strikeout on Taylor Teagarden. Then, Julio Borbon popped a ball to shallow center that looked like it might drop in until Gutierrez sprinted ov er for the catch.
Moments later, with Shawn Kelley on the mound and the bases loaded — after a walk to Ian Kinsler Michael Young hit one to the gap in right center. Once again, a sprinting Gutierrez was able to make a tough catch look easy.
And that was the game.
