Rob Johnson to have three, perhaps four surgeries

arizona1013 009.jpg
The Peoria Javelinas are taking batting practice here in Peoria, Ariz. as we write this. They get the Arizona Fall League schedule underway at 12:35 p.m.
Meanwhile, the news regarding Rob Johnson is not so great. He’ll have his first surgery later this week on his hips, then have another on an injury to his wrist. There is also a possibility he’ll have more surgery to remove a bone spur in his elbow.
The first hip surgery takes place on Friday, to be performed by Dr. Marc Philippon in Colorado, then the next one on his other hip will occur in three weeks. Another three to ofur weeks after that, he flies to Seattle for the left wrist surgery, to be performed by Dr. Carlton Keck .
Good thing Kenji Johjima is still around, huh?
No word yet on how this impacts him heading into next season. The surgery is similar to what Alex Rodriguez had earlier this year and he returned in fine form. But a catcher is different, obviously, given the amount of squatting Johnson has to do. Can’t compare that to the work of a third baseman,
So, we’ll see.
