Brandon Morrow trade official: Zduriencik’s words from press release

game0406 004.jpg
We’ll be speaking to GM Jack Zduriencik within the hour, but here are his comments straight off the press release for now:
“We feel we have added an experienced power arm to go along with our current bullpen,” Zduriencik said of Brandon League. “He has a ‘swing and miss’ pitch and a high groundball rate. He is a good fit for our bullpen and our ballpark.”
“We also received a young outfielder in Johermyn Chavez, who was twice voted as a player of the year in the Blue Jays organization and we look forward to watching his progress through our system.”
“It is never easy to see a talented player like Brandon Morrow leave. We wish him the best and will be following his career.”

By the way, Chavez has his first name spelled both with a “Y” and a “J” on several different sites. Since the team is going with Johermyn, I’ll be using that from now on.
Also, as I wrote in the comments section of the prior post, I just don’t see this being part of the Cliff Lee trade. It doesn’t take an additional week to put something like this together. I’m told both teams had been discussing League-Morrow even before the whole Lee deal began to materialize the final full day of the baseball winter meetings.
We’ll try to find out more from Zduriencik.
