Felix Hernandez to sign long-term with Mariners: ESPN report

oakland0905 002.jpg
There’s a report that came out about a half hour ago from Keith Law over at ESPN saying that the Mariners have reached agreement on a multi-year deal with Felix Hernandez. The deal is said to be pending a physical, but no contract length or figures were revealed in the report.
Law is pretty well connected from his time in the Blue Jays front office and so I trust his source. Been trying for the last half-hour to get somebody on the phone, be they from the Mariners or Hernandez’s camp. Everybody has gone silent. Part of it is because it is after midnight on the east coast. But it isn’t after midnight here and yet, the M’s have gone mysteriously silent. Usually, when they are like that, there is truth to the rumors that have come out, So, I’d say this one definitely has some legs.
Tomorrow was the day when both sides in arbitration cases exchange figures with each other ahead of a hearing. If Hernandez has agreed to a deal, that won’t be happening.
Things is obviously huge news for Mariners fans and something the team wanted to get out of the way ahead of the coming season. The M’s could not, as we’ve told you before, let this thing drag out into the regular season and risk Hernandez being off his game.
