Miguel Cabrera, he of the .337 average, 20 homers and 68 RBI, is back in the Tiger lineup after sitting last night with back issues. Russell Branyan gets a day of rest as the Mariners try to ensure that his back issues don’t flare up.
“The way he was used in Cleveland was five days on, one day off,” Wakamatsu said. “I talked about giving him a day today so he can finish out to the All-Star break.”
Michael Saunders moves up from ninth to eighth in the batting order. Saunders has batted ninth in 25 starts, and this is his eighth start in the No. 8 spot. Wakamatsu said the main factory was to break up left-handed hitters Saunders and Ichiro against the lefties in the Detroit bullpen.
