Red Sox 2, Mariners 1: Fightin’ M’s go down to defeat

UPDATE: 11:38 p.m: Working on new blog post. Will be up soon.
Jack Wilson made things interesting with a two-out double in the ninth to bring up Ichiro. But once again, the M’s waited too long to start hitting and went down to a 2-1 defeat.
Ichiro was walked intentionally and Josh Wilson struck out.
This should be an interesting post-game clubhouse.
I think all the talk about Wakamatsu’s managerial leadership — or lack of it, for some of you — is about to come to a head.
The team has to support the manager here, if it has any plans of keeping him. I was told two days ago that Wakamatsu will finish out the season and then be subject to a review along with everybody else on his staff.
That stuff happens every year.
But Wakamatsu put his foot down tonight and benched Chone Figgins after the latter did nothing to intercept an errant Michael Saunders throw from the outfield. The context is everything here, since the M’s have messed up on a daily basis since the All-Star Break, making the, full value for their 2-7 record.
Wakamatsu has decided to make an example of Figgins. And Figgins doesn’t like it.
By the way, I’m told FSN has footage of the dugout altercation but is not airing it. MLB Network did show the footage.
