Twins 5, Mariners 3: M’s can’t overcome early mistakes

The fans here gave new closer Matt Capps a standing ovation as he took the mound in the ninth, then another as he finished off the Mariners in the ninth. Capps, acquired from Washington yesterday for catching prospect Wilson Ramos, allowed a two-out single to Chone Figgins that brought Casey Kotchman to the plate.
Kotchman went down swinging to end it, as seen in the photo above.
Seattle actually played a pretty good game tonight once all the usual nonsense was out of the way. Unfortunately, it was already 5-0 once that happened and the M’s could not come all the way back.
Josh Wilson had the two-run double, but his earlier error and failure to come through in a bases loaded, one out situation cost his team at least two runs. An earlier Figgins error cost the M’s two more runs and that was the difference in the game.
Big night for Russell Branyan with two doubles. But not big enough and he’s left standing in the on-deck circle by Kotchman in the ninth.
One more loss equals Seattle’s worst ever mark for a single month, the 6-22 set back in August of 1977.
