Mariners at Baltimore Orioles: Aug. 17, 2010 game thread

Close call there as Luke French gave up his second and third hits of the game in the eighth inning. But with two on and two out, Brandon League got Nick Markakis to roll over on a grounder to shortstop and the threat is neutralized.
League will have to get a multi-inning save tonight with the 1-0 lead. No David Aardsma.
Josh Bell got a two-out double — his second hit of the game and the only two off French to that point — followed by an infield hit from Brian Roberts. M’s shortstop Josh Wilson knocked the ball down with a diving stop, but had it roll away. Had Bell been watching the play, he might have been able to score.
But he stopped at third and the M’s caught a break.

5:40 p.m.: Luke French took a no-hitter into the sixth inning when, with one out, Josh Bell singled through the left side. Brian Roberts nearly bunted for a hit after that, but Adam Moore made a strong throw to first to get him.
The runner moved to second and Nick Markakis walked to put two on and two out. But French got Ty Wigginton to fly out to right field.
So, Seattle still has a 1-0 lead as we head to the seventh inning.
The game’s only run came in the fifth inning, when Moore singled and then scored on a double to left center by Matt Tuiasosopo, a late starter today when Ryan Langerhans came down with a severe headache right before gametime.
4:53 p.m.: We’ve played three innings and are still scoreless, with Luke French having given up just a walk and zero hits so far. The Mariners have one hit and nearly had a run in the topof the third after a one-out walk to Josh Wilson.
Ichiro sent a drive to center and Adam Jones had to make a racing catch, hauling the ball in with his glove outstretched. Wilson was on his way to third when the ball was caught and had to scramble like crazy to make it back to first without being doubled off. If Jones doesn’t catch that ball, he scores easily.
4:07 p.m.: Ryan Langerhans is a late scratch in left field, with Matt Tuiasosopo going in to take his place. Luke French takes the mound, hoping all those right-handed bats for the O’s don’t make a “French Connection.”
Ha.
They’ve announced the gametime temperature as 91 degrees, which is hotter than the 90 last night. The difference is, there’s much less humidity tonight. Feels like a normal 91. Not like 103, the way it did last night.
