Ryan Rowland-Smith will start Sunday for Mariners

In the place of Felix Hernandez and his Cy Young statistics, the Mariners will send Ryan Rowland-Smith and his 1-10 record to the mound Sunday for the season finale against the A’s.
Manager Daren Brown said Rowland-Smith is the most stretched out pitcher in the bullpen, and this gives him a chance to end a brutal season on a positive note.
“(Chris) Seddon started for us in Tacoma but it’s been awhile since he went any length of pitches,” Brown said. “In a perfect scenario, he (Rowland-Smith) would give you five or six innings and be able to build some confidence going into the winter. It’s been a tough year for him.”

In other developments, Brown confirmed that reliever David Aardsma (oblique) and first baseman/DH Russ Branyan (back) won’t play in the final three games. Nor will Milton Bradley, who is recovering well from knee surgery.
There is a slight possibility Jose Lopez (dislocated finger) could play in one of the final two games. Brown said Lopez, not exactly known for his blinding speed, has been lobbying him to pinch-run
“I told him I’d take that into consideration,” Brown said.
Asked for whom Lopez could possibly pinch-run, Brown joked, “Hansen,” referring to bench coach Roger Hansen.
