View replay of Geoff Baker Live!

Once again folks, my apologies for all the video and connection problems in the second half of the show. I appreciate you all hanging in there like that. I’ve put the replay of the first half-hour of the show up, right before all the connection problems hit. I thought it was a good half-hour. Thanks for being patient.
Obviously, there was a lot of concern about Franklin Gutierrez. First, I gave you an update on what’s going on with him as best we know.
When a reader, understandably, asked why this “wasn’t handled” in the off-season, I came to the defense of Jack Zduriencik and the front office. Based on what I know, Gutierrez’s medical issue was looked at extensively and the team should have a firm grasp of what they’re dealing with. The way I see it, what they’re grappling with now is not a diagnosis, but how to treat it. That’s very different from not checking something out beforehand. Remember, the country’s HIPPA laws make it impossible for the team to divulge exactly what Gutierrez has unless he signs a waiver giving them permission. From what I understand, he’s choosing to keep it private right now. As is his right. Some folks don’t like to have their private medical info splattered across the country. But as I said before, I’m told it’s not a life threatening illness or anything. Just a condition. That’s all I can say.

Another listener asked me who stood out most in camp today and I nominated third base coach Jeff Datz, nearly brained by a pop-fly he didn’t see until it missed hitting him in the head by an eyelash.
Someone asked when I think Ichiro will slow down physically. Here’s my response, plus video footage of Ichiro making a straight throw home from right field today.
I’ll tell you what as well. No matter how many Simpsons episodes I’ve watched, where Moe’s Tavern gets crank-called by Bart, I still fell for one of the oldest tricks in the book tonight. Hats off to the prankster.
