Daily coverage of the Mariners during the season and all year long.

Saturday morning update

After some unseasonable weather the last week or so here, it’s beginning to turn into the spring training atmosphere visitors would expect — sunny, set to be in the 70s or so today, and the wind having died down.
A beautiful day for a ball game, in other words, and the Mariners’ lineup is set for today’s 12:05 p.m. tilt against the Indians.
Here it is:
Ichiro (DH)
Figgins (3B)
Gutierrez (CF)
Kennedy (1B)
Olivo (C)
Saunders (LF)
Ryan (SS)
Kazmar (2B)
Mike Wilson (RF)
Bedard (P)
Jack Wilson was initially in the starting lineup at second, but was sent home for the day after showing up ill and replaced by Kazmar.
Other pitchers who could go today include Jamey Wright, Chris Seddon, Dan Cortes and Manny DelCarmen.
Nate Robertson will start tomorrow when the Mariners play in Scottsdale against the Giants, and Felix Hernandez will make his spring debut on Monday when the Mariners play in Phoenix against the A’s.
A FEW LINKS. …
As that title suggests, a few Mariner-related links:
— Here’s some video of the newest Mariner, James Paxton, talking to reporters after he signed on Friday. Paxton was in the locker room this morning, being escorted around and shown such necessities such as where the lineup is posted each morning.
— Here’s my story for Saturday’s paper on the Paxton signing and other items.
— This Boston Globe story says Ichiro was the fastest in the majors last year getting from home to first in 3.8 seconds.
— Here’s Lookout Landing’s take on Friday’s game.
Ken Griffey Jr., is serving as an ambassador in the Philippines.
All for now.
