Daily coverage of the Mariners during the season and all year long.

March 10, 2011 at 7:15 AM

Morning briefing

For much of camp to date, the Mariners have seemed to alternate lineups — playing established guys one day, younger and non-roster guys the next.
But today breaks the trend a bit as the Mariners are going with much the same lineup today as they did yesterday against the Dodgers in Glendale. That one helped the Mariners to a 9-4 win, the team’s third straight.
Here’s the lineup:
Ichiro, DH
Chone Figgins, 3B
Milton Bradley, LF
Justin Smoak, 1B
Ryan Langerhans, CF
Gabe Gross, RF
Jack Wilson, 2B
Brendan Ryan, SS
Adam Moore, C
Erik Bedard, P
And in fact, that’s pretty close to what could be the Opening Day lineup (the outfield excepted). This will be the second time for the Wilson-Ryan infield combo, and Moore back behind the plate in his quest to show he can do the job if Miguel Olivo is unable to go when the season begins.
Also a big outing for Bedard to start stretching himself out to that three-inning area. Other pitchers who may go today are Denny Bautista, Justin Miller, Fabio Castro, Chris Smith, Jose Flores, Josh Lueke and Aaron Laffey.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— I wrote for today’s paper about Jack Wilson’s experiment at second base.
Larry Stone wrote today about Adam Moore and the catcher situation.
— Pitchers and Poets has an interview with M’s broadcaster Dave Sims about scorekeeping.
All for now.
