Felix Hernandez gets a little offense and a lot of defense behind him for win

Well, there once again wasn’t much offense helping Felix Hernandez out tonight. Adam Kennedy’s home run turned out to be the difference in a 1-0 win by the Mariners, now 7-13 on the season.
But unlike some prior games, we did see some defense behind Hernandez tonight.
There was Kennedy in the sixth, right after his home run. blocking a shot up the first base limne by Cliff Pennington with his body. Kennedy then picked the ball up and flipped to a covering Hernandez.

Then, in the seventh, you had the double-play turned by Chone Figgins on the lineout with a runner aboard. Then, the nifty Brendan Ryan play on a ball deep in the hole, the long throw and the great stretch at first base by Kennedy.
That’s the type of teamwork missing from prior Hernandez outings.
I was a bit surprised Eric Wedge let Hernandez throw 126 pitches. But he’d pulled him early his last time out, so he had the arm strength.
Jamey Wright came on and got the one-pitch out to end the eighth with two on.
And then, despite giving up a leadoff single, Brandon League got it done in the ninth. Part of that was because, with one out and a runner on second, Kennedy ranged behind his bag in foul territory for an over-the-shoulder catch on a Kurt Suzuki popup.
