The Mariners were planning to use Chone Figgins at third base tonight. But he was a late scratch, with Luis Rodriguez (photo above) taking his place.
“He’s feeling a little bit under the weather,” Mariners manager Eric Wedge told reporters.
Figgins isn’t the only regular who will sit tonight’s game. Milton Bradley is out and Ryan Langerhans will be in left field.
Adam Kennedy will be the DH while Jack Cust sits.
Bradley is 0-for-9 lifetime against Rangers starter Colby Lewis, while Cust is 1-for-11.
So, that’s a bit of a shorthanded-looking offense, though, judging by how some guys have played so far, maybe not.
Wedge said he felt Figgins had been making some offensive strides.
“He has been better,” he said. “His contact’s been better. His barrel to the ball has been more consistent. So, I think he has been easing in there. There’s a lot of baseball still to be played.”
