Carlos Peguero, Mariners bullpen come up huge in 3-2 win

Carlos Peguero had two of the season-high seven extra-base hits by the Mariners tonight and they were huge. Peguero helped tie things up in the fifth inning after a leadoff triple, then gave Seattle the lead for good in the sixth with a solo homer to right field off Brad Penny.
Yeah, I know. Seven extra-base hits should buy you more than three runs. This offense still needs work.
Adam Kennedy had a leadoff double in the ninth and was stranded. That could have been costly but Brandon League came up big again after a bit of a scare in the ninth.

League and the rest of the bullpen were outstanding tonight. You had two hitless innings tossed by Chris Ray in relief of Erik Bedard.
Then, David Paukey survived that leaoff infield hit in the eighth by the speedy Don Kelly. No easy task that.
And finally, a near-perfect ninth by League, who surrendered an infield single off his glove to Victor Martinez with two out in the final frame. But then, after a long Ramon Santiago drive foul to right that barely missed being a home run, League got a groundout and retired the side. What else is new?
The pitchers won this one. I’m told by some of the local media here that Bedard’s outing was one of the best by a lefty against the Tigers all season.
