ADDITIONAL NOTE: We will have Geoff Baker Live! tonight at 6:10 p.m. PT from FX McRory’s
We’ve got tonight’s lineups out and Dustin Ackley is no longer in the No. 2 position. He’s back at No. 5 while Brendan Ryan takes over at his customary two-spot.
Not much of a surprise there. M’s manager Eric Wedge needed to give Ryan the day off yesterday, so he experimented with Ackley batting second.
We may very well see Ackley continue there at some point. But the job is Ryan’s for now and always was. Didn’t change because he sat for a day. Now, he has to start hitting a bit more consistently than he has the past few weeks.
As for Ackley, he needs to continue to adjust to major league pitching. He just went hitless for the first time. Tonight, we see how he responds to that. It’s all a learning process. You’ve got to walk before you can run, even if some guys are fast walkers.
