Too little, too late on offensive side as Mariners swept at home

Well, this didn’t help Seattle’s chances of contending this season. The Mariners did not have a very good series on the mound or at the plate against the Atlanta Braves and took a 5-3 loss today to complete a three-game sweep by the visitors.
Dustin Ackley made it interesting with a two-run homer in the eighth. But the reality is, the Mariners were never really in this game.

Once the Braves scored three off Felix Hernandez in the fifth, you kind of knew that was it. I came away very impressed by the Braves in this series. They have good balance up and down their lineup and they have very strong pitching in both the rotation and bullpen.
In other words, the Phillies may not run away with the NL playoffs this year.
As for the AL playoffs, if the M’s want to be a part of those, they’re going to have to decide to throw their hat in the ring. Right now, they’re giving off the appearance of a big tease. And not much of one lately.
