Carlos Peguero back in left field for the Mariners

UPDATE 4:45 p.m.: Mystery solved. Franklin Gutierrez isn’t feeling well. Began last night, he’s in the training room now. Otherwise, Greg Halman would have started in left, Gutierrez in center and Carlos Peguero on the bench. The Mariners say it isn’t his previous stomach condition. So, just not feeling well.
Seattle begins play 5 1/2 games behind the Texas Rangers tonight and will send Carlos Peguero out to left field yet again, toting his .190 batting average. Greg Halman gets the start in center field.
Not sure whether there is something wrong with Franklin Gutierrez. He looked pretty good in last night’s game and, with two games to go before the All-Star Break, this isn’t exactly time for 28-year-old guys to be resting. But you never know.

Adam Kennedy is back in there tonight. He needed the rest because the team has been pushing him harder than he should be pushed at this stage of his career.
Kennedy will be at first base tonight while Justin Smoak moves back to DH yet again.
Smoak hit a ball hard on a sacrifice fly last night, but otherwise really does have to get his offensive game going again.
