Casper Wells and Charlie Furbush to join Mariners Sunday

The Mariners have officially announced their deal and have said that outfielder Casper Wells and lefty starter/reliever Charlie Furbush will be in uniform Sunday.
“We felt that today’s deal provided us the opportunity to acquire several players that are at or near the Major League ready and we could control for five to six years, all of whom have upside potential,” GM Jack Zduriencik said in a release. “We believe it improves the construction of our Major League roster by adding a right-handed bat and a left-handed arm immediately. And thanks to the young arms we have in our system, we believe that we were able to add talent to our organization while dealing from an area of depth.”

Zduriencik is to speak to reporters shortly. He called today’s moves a difficult decision.
“Doug and David have done a very nice job for us and it was tough for us to move them,” he said of Fister and Pauley. “But as we continue to accumulate talent in our organization that will allow us to be the kind of team we aspire to be, a team that contends for and wins championships, these are the sort of tough decisions we need to make when the opportunity presents itself.”
