Mariners contribute to pitching thriller, but can’t score in time

mari08052011 013.JPG
Not many bad things you can say about the M’s and their pitching tonight. Six strong innings by Jason Vargas and some more tossed in by the bullpen of Aaron Laffey, Jamey Wright and Josh Lueke.
But somebody had to score tonight and the M’s simply could not.
They take a 1-0 loss when Dan Cortes gives up the winning marker in the 10th.

Torii Hunter led off with a single, took second base on a wild pitch, then scored when Vernon Wells reached out and poked a ball into left field.
What can you do?
The M’s didn’t have many scoring chances tonight and didn’t execute at the plate or on the bases the few times they did.
