Mariners’ Monday lineup vs. Angels

Mariners (56-76)
——————————-
51 Ichiro Suzuki (L) RF
21 Franklin Gutierrez CF
13 Dustin Ackley (L) 2B
20 Mike Carp (L) 1B
30 Miguel Olivo C
4 Adam Kennedy (L) DH
33 Casper Wells LF
15 Kyle Seager (L) 3B
26 Brendan Ryan SS
——————————-
49 Blake Beavan RHP
Mike Carp returns to first base after a day off. I’m not sure why the need to play Adam Kennedy at DH at this point of the season at the expense of guys like Trayvon Robinson and even Wily Mo Pena. I’m guessing Eric Wedge’s reason will be Kennedy’s career .303 average (10-for-33) against Angels starter Joel Pineiro, including three doubles and five walks. Onthe other hand, Kennedy is hitting .168 since the All-Star break.

As expected, Justin Smoak will begin his rehab assignment tonight with Tacoma. Smoak has been on the disabled list with a fractured nose since Aug. 13.
Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jack Zduriencik announced today that first baseman Justin Smoak, who has been on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured nose since Aug. 13, will begin his rehabilitation assignment tonight at AAA Tacoma. Smoak was hit in the face by a bad-hop grounder inthe second inning against the Red Sox.
