Oakland Athletics at Mariners: 2011 season finale game thread

There won’t be a whole lot of commentary on here from me tonight. I’ve said all there has been to say about this season and seeing whether Anthony Vasquez can finish with fewer home runs allowed than strikeouts isn’t really my cup of tea.
The M’s, as we’ve discussed, have numerous pieces now in place to make things happen this winter and speed up their rebuilding process. But a lot of that will require stuff outside the control of folks whose pay grade is topped by GM Jack Zduriencik.
It appears the team’s ownership will almost certainly have to step forward at some point and give the M’s more resources to compete. This division is getting tougher both from a talent and a financial perspective. Even with all of the young talent compiled so far, it still might not be enough to contend without some added money to bring in the offensive help needed.
The M’s need to take this to another level before attendance falls too much lower. In many ways, this off-season will be as exciting as any pennant race the team could have been involved in this year. That’s because the winter to come might not impact any one season, but several more to come. The M’s have to get it right.
We’ll be there, of course, to chronicle it all.
