Bombs away for Jesus Montero during batting practice at Mariners camp

Back by popular demand, we have some more footage of Jesus Montero taking batting practice this morning. This footage, shot about 20 minutes ago, shows Montero unloading a couple of bombs.

You can hear the gasps from some fans watching him swing.

Listen to the audio and the crack of the bat. That isn’t being enhanced by my computer. Montero hits the ball extremely hard, which is why his blasts sound louder than some of the other batting practice footage we’ve collected.
In fact, he seemed to be overswinging at times. You can see at the tail end of this round of BP that he actually stings his hand on a pitch by not making square contact.
I heard him tell a coach in an ensuing round, in which he fouled off a couple of pitches, that he was trying to hit the ball too hard. Anyway, that’s what BP is for.
But as you can see, when he does make solid contact, the ball goes a long, long way in an awfully big hurry.
