Hisashi Iwakuma to make intrasquad debut with Mariners tomorrow

Theyu just put out the list of pitchers throwing in tomorrow’s intrasquad game and Hisashi Iwakuma tops the list of Team 1. Iwakuma is slotted to throw two innings atop that team’s rotation, while Jason Vargas is to throw three innings for Team 2.
Vargas, you’ll recall, retired all seven hitters he faced — striking out four — in Friday’s first intrasquad affair.

For Iwakuma, the Japanese free agent who signed with the Mariners last month, the outing promises to be watched not only by fans here, but scores of others in Japan. Lots of interest swirling whenever he does something here, given how no one really knows what to expect of him in the United States.
We’ve already seen another unknown player, Munenori Kawasaki, come over and make a big impact in the early stages of camp. Brendan Ryan has yet to make any throws during drills here, though he is expected to do so at some point in the next day or two depending on how sore his foot feels from yesterday.
After that, he could get in a game at shortstop.

But if he isn’t 100 percent to start the season, having Kawasaki — who tripled and scored in yesterday’s game (photo above) — could be a benefit at the position, at least in the early going.

Team 1:
Iwakuma (2 innings)
Camp
Perez
Heilman
Jimenez
Ruffin
Luetge
Team 2
