Kyle Seager at third, Chone Figgins in center as Mariners visit Angels

Midway through the third inning, we’re still scoreless. The Mariners nearly broke through against Jered Weaver in the second inning, when Jesus Montero led off with an infield single, followed by a two-out liner to right by Michael Saunders for a single and a single to left by Brendan Ryan. The Mariners held Montero at third and then Luis Rodriguez flied out.
Just before that out, the M’s bench was squacking with plate ump Kerwin Danley about a strike call on L-Rod. A little spring training intensity there.
Saunders made a nice, running catch in the right field corner of a Torii Hunter drive and Kyle Seager snared a bullet lined to third base by Peter Bourjos.
12:26 p.m.: Big crowd filing into Tempe Diablo Stadium on a windy afternoon to see the Mariners take on the Angels. Chone Figgins is the center fielder today, Michael Saunders in right and Kyle Seager at third as the M’s look to find an alternate blueprint to begin the year.
Figgins took a called third strike to lead off the game against Jered Weaver. Dustin Ackley flied out to center and then Kyle Seager took a big swing and missed badly on a Weaver changeup to end the first.
The Angels got a leadoff Erick Aybar single, but then Mike Carp snared a sinking liner to left and doubled Aybar off first with a strong throw. Bobby Abreu struck out against Blake Beavan to end the frame.
