Mariners to send out, uh, interesting lineup against Padres

Ran into Justin Smoak arriving at the clubhouse at noonish, still looking like he hadn’t quite recovered from the Japan flight. I asked him, kiddingly, if he was feeling chipper.
“Nope,” he replied.
The lineup for tonight’s game with the Padres was posted shortly thereafter, and not surprisingly, it doesn’t include anyone who went to Japan. The only familiar name is starting pitcher Kevin Millwood, who stayed back in Peoria while the rest of the team was in Tokyo. This will be Millwood’s final Cactus League tuneup before the Mariners break camp next Wednesday.
Otherwise, the Mariners will send out a squad of minor leaguers — and not even their top minor leaguers:
Denny Almonte CF
Daniel Carroll LF
Brad Miller SS
Rich Poythress 1B
Stefen Romero 2B
Mario Martinez 3B
Joe Dunigan DH
Jesus Sucre C
James Jones RF
Kevin Millwood P
(Sorry, I originally posted Francisco Martinez as the starting third baseman). Also, Dustin Ackley was feeling ill today and was sent home. Same with bench coach Robby Thompson.

The reserves aren’t much more familiar: Lamonta, Austin, Hicks, Dowd, Bonilla and Savastano. And the pitchers to follow Millwood will be LaFromboise, Sweeney, Capps, Pryor and Burgoon.
