George Sherrill placed on 15-day DL with elbow strain; Charlie Furbush recalled

George Sherrill just has not looked right all spring and he gave up home runs in each of his two relief outings thus far in the regular season. Now, he’s gone on the 15-day disabled list with a strained flexor bundle in his left elbow. That bundle is what gave Sherrill problems last season and caused him to shut things down a month early.

Charlie Furbush has been recalled from Class AAA Tacoma in Sherrill’s place. Furbush will be in uniform tonight.
At age 34, Sherrill has to find a way to get that elbow healthy again. He was an effective pitcher for the Braves last season before all of these troubles began, but if he can’t get the elbow pain-free enough to be effective with his breaking ball, then this might be the end of the line. His DL stint is retroactive to April 10, when he allowed a three-run homer to Ian Kinsler on a 3-0 pitch.
