Mariners ride Chone Figgins to a series sweep in Detroit

post0426.jpg
Chone Figgins saw his bat wake up just in time today, notching three hits, including the decisive, tiebreaking double in the seventh inning to give the Mariners a 5-4 win over the Detroit Tigers.
Justin Smoak hit a three-run homer for the Mariners while Miguel Olivo added a solo shot.
The M’s survived a dramatic rally by the Tigers in the sixth, then held them off again the final few frames.
Brandon League got a double-play grounder by Alex Avila to end it with two on in the ninth. Alex Liddi had made a good play right befoe that to keep a hard single from getting by him and down the left field line.
Otherwise, it might have ended much differently. But it didn’t.
Second three-game sweep here in April in as many seasons by the M’s.
They outscored the Tigers 21-9.
