Miguel Olivo headed to DL, Saunders bunted on own in ninth

Just a couple of bullet points before I write for the newspaper:
Miguel Olivo’s groin injury is serious enough that he’s headed for the disabled list. Eric Wedge, who had his door closed after the game, presumably discussing things with Jack Zduriencik on the phone (the GM is not on the trip), said the current plan is to split the catching duties between Jesus Montero and John Jaso while Olivo is out. He also said there’s a good chance that Mike Carp will come up to take Olivo’s roster spot.
A disappointed Olivo said his foot caught in the turf as he made the play on a nubber in front of the plate, and he knew right away it was pretty bad. He hurt his groin in spring training last year and said this felt worse. He missed three weeks with that injury.

Also, that one-out bunt in the ninth by Michael Saunders with runners on first and third that resulted in Munenori Kawasaki being thrown out at the plate — Saunders did that on his own “and he shouldn’t have,” Wedge said. “I’ve talked to him about it already. I asked him his reasons, and he had good answers, but it’s still not what we wanted to do right there.”
Saunders’ reasons: he said he wasn’t seeing the ball well at the plate all night, and the third baseman was playing back. He felt he could have pulled it off successfully with a better bunt, but realizes now he made a mistake.
More later.
