Game thread, Mariners vs. Tigers, May 9

TIGERS SIXTH: Tigers tie it on double by Laird, single by Worth (after he fails on two bunt attempts) and sac fly by Jackson. Boesch singled Worth to second, but Cabrera hit into a double play. He’s now 0-for-12 in the series.
TIGERS FIFTH: Vargas gives up a leadoff single to Young, but gets Raburn on fly to track, and Peralta grounds into a double play. He’s thrown 53 pitches through five. 1-0 Mariners.
MARINERS FOURTH: The Mariners score first. Ichiro singled with one out, their first hit off Smyly. Montero struck out for the second time, but Ichiro stole second, and Seager drilled an RBI double off the top of the RF walll, just barely missing a homer. 1-0 Mariners.
TIGERS FOURTH: Vargas needed just seven pitches to get three straight ground outs. He’s blanked the Tigers on one hit through four. 0-0.
MARINERS THIRD: M’s get their first baserunner on two-out walk by Chone Figgins, but Jaso flies out to right. 0-0.
MARINERS SECOND: Both pitchers are through two perfect innings on 23 pitches. 0-0.
TIGERS SECOND: Vargas through 2 perfect innings on 23 pitches (17 strikes). He’s fanned three.0-0. It is really cold tonight, with a biting wind. That can’t help the hitters. 0-0.
MARINERS FIRST: Tigers rookie lefty Drew Smyly also puts the Mariners down in order, striking out Ichiro for the third out. 0-0.
TIGERS FIRST: Easy 1-2-3 inning, with a nice play by Ryan on grounder by Boesch, who was 7-for-12 lifetime against Vargas. 0-0.
Hopefully, this will post before the fifth inning, like last night. The Mariners’ six-game homestand comes to a close tonight. They are 3-2 so far. The Mariners fly to New York tomorrow, and will open a three-game series at Yankee Stadium on Friday, with Felix Hernandez opposing Hiroki Kuroda. It will be Hector Noesi vs. Phil Hughes on Saturday, and Andy Pettitte making his 2012 debut on Sunday. The Mariner starter is undecided — if Blake Beavan can’t go, it may be Kevin Millwood.
