Michael Saunders drops the ball — literally — and Mariners go down to defeat

This was shaping up as another positive Mariners hitting story with that late comeback in th seventh and eighth from four runs down.
But then Michael Saunders flat-out muffed a routine fly ball by Paul Konerko in the eighth, opening the door to a three-run outburst by the White Sox. The Mariners take a 7-4 loss and now have dropped 15 of the last 17 they’ve played in this park.
Saunders had to jog over for the flyball, stuck his glove up for the catch, then seemed stunned as the ball clanked off it and struck his face. Konerko cruised in to second on the error.
The Mariners still had a chance to get Saunders off the hook. Pinch-runner Brent Lillibridge was still at third with two out when speedy Alexei Ramirez hit a chopper that Brendan Ryan had to run in on. Ryan bobbled the transfer from his glove to his hand just slightly and then threw wide to first base.
Ramirez likely would have beaten the play out without the bobble and poor throw. It was ruled a single that scored the go-ahead run.
One walk later, Alejandro De Aza singled and two more runs scored. Ballgame over.
