Mariners pre-game notes — Hernandez to return Tuesday against Padres

Bob Condotta filling in for Geoff Baker tonight.
The most notable news before tonight’s game against the Dodges is that Felix Hernandez will return to the mound Tuesday night against the Padres. Blake Beavan will pitch on Sunday.
Manager Eric Wedge made the announcement prior to the game (which you can see in the video below). Hernandez was scratched from a start on Wednesday due to lower back pain. He “played catch” yesterday when the Mariners were off and Wedge said “he feels good. He feels really good.”
Wedge said Hernandez could have pitched on Sunday but that even if he went on Sunday he would get only six more starts between now and the All-Star break so “it makes more sense to take the cautious rout and give him until Tuesday.”
The Mariners were on the field early today, doing about a half-hour of situational infield work. Wedge said “it’s just about trying to stay shapr. It’s a good time to do it after an off day when we are fresh.”
