The picture above was sent Thursday night from Felix Hernandez’s twitter acount, @RealKingFelix, and shows a group of Mariners that gathered at Brandon League’s San Diego home to view Game 5 of the NBA Finals. From left, it’s Justin Smoak, League, Shawn Kelley, Hernandez and Jason Vargas with their children.
Hernandez has never made a secret of his intense fondness for the Miami Heat, often wearing a Dwyane Wade “El Heat” jersey in the clubhouse.
“It was a special night,” Hernandez said of Miami’s title-clinching win over Oklahoma City.
He noted that his choice of a favorite team in this series was bound to be popular in Seattle, which has been rootly actively against the Thunder.
“All the people in Seattle are cheering for the Heat, so we’re good on that,” he said. “They should have a parade in Miami and a parade in Seattle.”
Smoak added, “It was fun to sit there and watch, especially with Fifi (Hernandez). He’s a Miami fan. He’s always yelling at TV, good or bad. It was good. He was all excited they won.”
