Welcome to the Mariners moment: Erasmo Ramirez fans 10, but still loses 1-0

Erasmo Ramirez really only made one mistake over his eight innings of work tonight — a home run by Seth Smith way back in the second inning.
But that was enough for Ramirez and the Mariners to take a 1-0 loss to the Oakland A’s. Ramirez became the eighth Mariners rookie pitcher to strike out at least 10 batters in one game, the previous being Michael Pineda last season.
But, all together now, one more time…you can’t win if you don’t score.
The Mariners scattered seven hits in seven innings off Tommy Milone without working a single walk or scoring. They finally got their lone walk of the game in the ninth inning against Ryan Cook.
But Michael Saunders grounded out and that was the ballgame.
