Mariners look for Hector Noesi to build off his last start

game0629.jpg
Any fans who might have been screaming “No-e-si!” when Hector Noesi tossed four scoreless frames to start this game were quickly shouting “No Mas!” one-plus innings later. Noesi faced 10 batters over that span and yielded four home runs, a double and a single and was on the short end of a 5-0 score when pulled.
The big blow in the fifth was a two-run jack by Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Looked like batting practice out there. Not sure Noesi finishes the season with this team, unless it’s as a September callup.

Meanwhile, Boston starter Aaron Cook (image in photo may be an approximate likeness) has held the Mariners to just an infield single by Ichiro over the first six innings. And a photo replay sent to me on Twitter by Dave “Softy” Mahler of Sports Radio KJR shows Ichiro may have been out! Maybe the Red Sox can file a post-game protest if Cook no-hits the home side.
8:15 p.m.: Boston just took a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning on three solo home runs by Will Middlebrooks, Cody Ross and Daniel Nava off Hector Noesi. The Ross and Nava shots were mammoth blasts to left and right field in which the outfielders barely twitched a muscle. Looked like a Home Run Contest at the All-Star Game, except Noesi won’t be anyplace near that.
7:06 p.m.: Hector Noesi went out and shut down the San Diego Padres for most of his previous outing last Sunday. He lost the game but it was still something he can build off.
Noesi will have a chance to do that tonight against much stiffer competition in the Boston Red Sox. I’ll tell you one thing: he’d better have superior stuff to what Mike Blowers showed us in throwing out the ceremonial first pitch tonight. That was brutal.
