Lack of offense once again dooms Mariners, pitcher Kevin Millwood

Kevin Millwood was at his best tonight, striking out seven and holding the Oakland Athletics scoreless for seven innings of three-hit ball.
But his offense again wasn’t scoring and his bullpen couldn’t hold a one-run lead in the eighth. Charlie Furbush gave up a double and then Tom Wilhelmsen yielded the tying single to Jemile Weeks, suffering his first blown save in two months.
Then, after two singles off Oliver Perez in the 11th, Steve Delabar came on to face pinch-hitter Chris Carter. Delabar has been burned by homers all season and saw his 0-1 offering destroyed by Carter, the ball blowing well beyond the left field wall without left fielder Casper Wells even budging.
Perez takes the loss, the M’s going down 4-1 in 11. First career walkoff for Carter.
