Justin Smoak has been recalled by Mariners, will be at park in time to play tonight

Justin Smoak caught a flight out of Nashville, Tenn. this morning and was supposed to arrive in Seattle in time to take part in pre-game workouts and be on the field.
Smoak will be activated in-place of Mike Carp, who is on the 15-day DL with a hip injury. I spoke with Smoak’s agent, Dustin Bledsoe, today and he confirmed to me that Smoak was told of the recall last night after AAA Tacoma played in Memphis.

From there, Smoak flew from Memphis to Nashville with his team but that plane did not arrive until something like 3 a.m.
Smoak’s flight to Seattle was about 9 a.m. So, yeah, he’ll be sort of Sleepless in Seattle tonight (sorry, I couldn’t resist).
But hey, it’s the major leagues. Regardless of the hitting numbers Smoak put up in AAA, which were not very good (.242 with no homers and much of the hits coming the past few days), he now has seven weeks to salvage something from his 2012 season. Yes, I do think he is up here to stay. The Mariners aren’t going to send him down with a week or so left until Sept. 1 roster expansions, so it’s safe to say he’s seen the last of Tacoma.
