The Mariners had just three hits heading into today’s eighth inning. But two doubles later, they had a 3-1 lead and that would wind up being the final score. So, the Mariners sweep the Indians for their eighth consecutive victory and 15th win in 16 games at Safeco Field.
Kyle Seager doubled in the eighth and then, following an intentional walk to John Jaso, Eric Thames doubled home a pair to decide this one.
The last time the Mariners had an eight-game win streak came in June and July of 2007, during the last eight contests managed in the big leagues by Mike Hargrove. Interestingly enough, Hargrove’s successor in Cleveland, Eric Wedge, is now the next M’s manager to have an eight-game win streak.
And Wedge did it against…Cleveland!
Amazing how that works. Anyhow, the Mariners are now 25-13 since the All-Star Break and now head off on the road for three games in Chicago and four more at Minnesota.
Seattle is down to just three games under .500.
