Mariners’ Monday lineup: Gutierrez sits

Here is tonight’s Mariners’ lineup vs. the Angels in Game 160 out of 162:
Mariners (73-86)
——————————–
13 Dustin Ackley (L) 2B
33 Casper Wells RF
15 Kyle Seager (L) 3B
63 Jesus Montero DH
17 Justin Smoak (S) 1B
55 Michael Saunders (L) CF
30 Miguel Olivo C
12 Trayvon Robinson (S) LF
26 Brendan Ryan SS
——————————–
34 Felix Hernandez RHP

As you can see, no Franklin Gutierrez, who strained his left groin yesterday in Oakland — the latest in a series of injuries and ailments that have wrecked much of his season.
For Felix Hernandez, this will be his last chance to make a Cy Young statement, though it might be too late considering the recent performances of Justin Verlander and David Price. Hernandez is 0-2 with a 5.13 ERA in four starts against the Angels this season, and 6-11, 3.86 in 29 career starts.
One victory by Seattle in these three games, and the Angels’ playoff hopes are toast, as I discuss here.
