This will be the regular lineup the Mariners typically roll out against a right-hander. No regular righty on the mound tonight, since Philip Humber tossed a perfect game in this building the last time he pitched here a year ago this month for the Chicago White Sox.
Humber uses a hard slider to generate some swings and misses as well as a plethora of ground balls. His fastball was up a few MPH last year, so that created a nice differential between that pitch and the 83-86 mph slider he employed with such success against Seattle. In other words, despite the record of the opponent, which hasn’t won since Opening Day, this should be a good test for the Mariners tonight.
Oh yeah, and Joe Saunders has to show more than he did in Oakland the first time out. Here’s to hoping he gets a good grip on the baseball.
