Franklin Gutierrez and Jesus Montero back in there for Mariners

Well, Franklin Gutierrez will give it another go tonight. The Mariners desperately need some offense and hope he can help supply it.

Jesus Montero is also back in there, since the Mariners have been overusing Kelly Shoppach the first few weeks and can’t keep playing him every day. Another guy being overused is Raul Ibanez, but he’s back in there tonight in eft after a real tough game in the field last night.

Now, I haven’t asked Eric Wedge about it yet. But I can tell you, his thinking will be he wants to show Ibanez he’ll put him back out there after a rough game without losing confidence in him.

Thing is, Ibanez has looked like he needs to get a few things together and with a right-hander on the hill, today might have been the day to do it with left-handed Endy Chavez capable of taking the left field spot.

But the Mariners are going with Ibanez again. He’s getting an awful lot of playing time in the early going and doesn’t have a whole lot to show for it so far. So, we’ll see how he does tonight.
