Another day, another Mariners lineup minus Franklin Gutierrez

Franklin Gutierrez was robbed of a catch at the wall in last night’s game by a fan who reached down and took the ball away from him. Gutierrez won’t get a chance to repay the favor today as he’s out of the lineup again after the night game. We’ll find out shortly whether this is just another precautionary move by manager Eric Wedge or whether Gutierrez is indeed hurting again.

Raul Ibanez, as expected, is not in the lineup either. Jason Bay moves into left field despite the presence of a right-hander on the mound, while Endy Chavez moves to center.

In other words, this is not the best lineup the team could be putting out there. This is a pretty big game for the Mariners, with three against the woeful Astros looming. Take this game here today, the road trip might not all of a sudden seem so dire.
